Change always evokes bittersweet emotion, and it is with gratitude that we look back on our chapter as The BX Press. The BX stories and the quirky characters were an endearing and central part of our story, and connected us to the history of the land in a tangible way. As we look ahead towards our 10th vintage this season, and open our new restaurant, we are turning the page to a new chapter. Our focus is shifting to re-emphasize the quality of the artisan cider, the 3rd generation transitional organic orchard, and the exciting contemporary farm-to-table menu celebrating local purveyors. As we thought about a new brand it was key that we selected something that not only spoke to, but also strengthened, the connection we have to the land. Enter Cambium - the living layer between roots and leaves in trees.

The family business, owned by Dave and Missy Dobernigg, are turning the page on a new chapter, changing the name to the Cambium Cider Co. The new labels are watercolour renditions of cross-sections from Spartan trees from the third generation orchard, each tree ring depicting the cambium layer from that year of growth, showing each year of provision from the tree. The company is welcoming Christian Scott as chef and part owner in the restaurant. Scott has worked with the company for two seasons and prior to that, in Okanagan winery restaurants and European kitchens. The heart of the restaurant features a wood-fired grille, allowing for a contemporary yet rustic menu, and a departure from pizza. After being shut down most of the season for construction on the new space, the cidery is ready to slowly open part of the new indoor dining space this weekend. The restaurant has limited dinner reservations on a small soft-opening menu for the first half of September. Reservations for the second half of September will open on the 18th. The business will also be opening to bookings in late September for small events and Christmas parties starting in late October. Going forward, the business hours will be: Thursday to Saturday: for dinner reservations required online and Friday to Sunday: cider and charcuterie — walk-ins. Apples will still be available for purchase, but the horticultural season is very late and an estimate is late September at the soonest.

As we wind down World Cider Day, we look at one of the fun brand refresh projects our team did recently. The cidery, run by Dave and Missy Dobernigg, has been operating since , on their family farm in Vernon, British Columbia, that was established in the s. With the influx of locals and visitors, the cidery decided it was time to expand and add a farm-to-table restaurant to the property, in collaboration with Chef Christian Scott. Cambium is the living layer of a tree where energy, growth, and connection occur. Missy and Dave came to Town Hall Brands to refresh the brand look to go along with the new name, by eliminating the former character stories that defined each cider and pivoted the focus to be on where the cider comes from and the delicious liquid. Along with refreshing the labels, Town Hall Brands created a new logo for Cambium. Keeping the theme of organic growing and a focus on the generational onsite orchard led us to create an apple containing abstract overlapping tree rings to represent the Cambium brand. The Town Hall Brands team found our inspiration for the new labels in the natural beauty of the tree rings.
