Happy Day Humane Society was created to serve the abused, big spring animal shelter and forgotten animals in and around the surrounding areas in an effort to find them safe and loving homes. Happy Day Humane Society is a c 3 non-profit animal rescue. Adoptive families who are interested in adopting larger dogs are required to have a fenced back yard. A fence check is required.

Animal Control manages and protects the animal population in Big Spring, enforces animal ordinances, protects the health and welfare of the citizens of Big Spring, and strives to place as many unwanted animals as possible in suitable homes. Animal Control helps keep Big Spring and Howard County citizens safe by providing pet care education and services. These programs work to reduce the number of unwanted strays animals in the city, minimize the threat of diseases such as rabies, and prevent injuries caused by animals. Only emergency calls are handled after 5 PM and on the weekends.
