The Underdark is a whole other area in Act One of Baldur's Gate 3 that comes with its own challenges. The myconid are a mushroom race within the Underdark that seem threatening at first but actually ask for your aid. Sovereign Spaw and Glut of the myconid colony request that you help rid them of duergar, but who should you really trust? It is hard to understand which group of beings are lawfully good and which are out for blood. This guide will detail the Avenge Glut's Circle and Protect The Myconid Circle questlines and what happens if you choose to destroy the myconid colony. The myconid are peaceful beings that are native to the Underdark. They are not hostile or aggressive creatures but will defend themselves and protect their colony if necessary. The myconid keep to themselves and are neutral. The duergar are also native to the Underdark, but have a more evil nature to them than their regular dwarf counterparts. The duergar has killed myconid either in an attempt to take over that area of the Underdark or because they are just bloodthirsty. Glut will approach you as you leave Spaw, after accepting the quest to protect the circle.
Afterwards, Glut shares its memory of its fellow Myconids slain by the duergar, bg3 sovereign glut, and will ask to travel with the party and kill the duergaror if they have already been slain, to see their corpses.
Both NPCs offer choices and consequences depending on your decisions. Doing so will cause Sovereign Glut to offer you a choice—you can kill Spaw and let Sovereign Glut become the only Sovereign, or you can keep your promise to Spaw, which means you must kill Sovereign Glut. Both options have their advantages and consequences. If you choose to return to Spaw and kill him, you must also kill the entire Colony. Regardless of your choice, you will immediately battle him.
Their leader, Sovereign Spaw, has several tasks for you to complete regarding the Duergar that are invading their land. After defeating them, Sovereign Glut wants to see what you did to them. That means you must return to the Ebonlake Grotto and beat him in combat. This area is not too far from the Arcane Tower, and you can choose to prepare accordingly before the battle. Now, when you make your way to the Grotto , none of the citizens will attempt to fight you. This will remain true until you reach Sovereign Spaw and speak with him.
