Many times, certain films or TV productions strike a chord among audiences, but get harshly panned by critics. That is what happened to the show Baywatch , only on a larger scale: despite its terrible reviews, this show became one of the audience's greatest favorites and established itself as a TV landmark with a strong influence on popular culture. Ironically, the show's ratings were not so good during its first season, so Baywatch was canceled. However, its creators and the main star, David Hasselhoff, saw the project's full potential, which is why they decided to bring it back and, from then on, Baywatch became a worldwide hit. Each week, millions of people around the world followed the adventures of these lifeguards, and throughout its 11 seasons, the show managed to retain a large fan base despite getting awful reviews. Moreover, Baywatch kicked off a franchise that was followed by the spin-off series Baywatch Nights and a movie starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron, which drew terrible reviews, but performed quite good at the box office.
