Originally a streetcar line , it is now the B61 and the B62 bus routes. The entire route was a single line, the B61, until January 3, ; [2] the B62 was previously a separate, parallel route between Downtown Brooklyn and Greenpoint , [6] now part of the B43 route. The streetcar line, B61 and the original B62 previously operated from the now-closed Crosstown Depot in Greenpoint. The route ran east a short distance along Broadway , then ran north along Driggs Avenue southbound trolleys used Bedford Avenue through northern Williamsburg , and finally north on Manhattan Avenue to Box Street near the foot of Newtown Creek in Greenpoint. Southbound buses reenter service via Boerum Place one block west. On January 28, , the line was replaced with bus service, designated "B", [1] [25] between Greenpoint and Red Hook the later terminal labeled as "Erie Basin". The change was reversed on August 1 of that year after complaints from riders and local businesses.

As part of both the Queens and Brooklyn Bus Network Redesigns, the proposed B62 would be extended north from Long Island City to Astoria via 21 St, providing new all-day frequent connections between Queens and Brooklyn, addressing customer requests for better interborough service. Although the proposed B62 would no longer directly serve Queens Plaza, alternative service would still be provided with connections to the proposed Q, Q63, or Q To match stop spacing on other Limited routes, B62 stops would be spaced slightly further apart than Local routes to improve speed and reliability, but still within walking distance.
