However, it must be defeated to achieve a certain ending.
Astel, Naturalborn of the Void is a main boss located in an optional underground region in Elden Ring. You can face him at the end of the Lake of Rot, located in Nokstella Eternal City , at the end of the Ainsel River - which can be accessed by progressing through Ranni the Witch's questline , or via a coffin in the Deeproot Depths. To reach Astel, you'll need to find a set of coffins at the edge of a waterfall of rot in the Grand Cloister at the end of the Lake of Rot. A hyper aggressive Malformed Star, Astel will likely take a number of attempts due to the sheer ferocity of its attacks, and the variety of moves it can perform. Entering the arena through the mist wall, Astel will likely open the fight with a giant beam that it summons between its mandibles. This attack, like many others that Astel uses, requires slightly delayed reactions to avoid.

It is recommended to stay close to the head, as the bite attacks can be easily dodged. But one must be wary of the Gravity Wave attacks he does when one is under him for too long. Don't underestimate the tail attack, as it has a very long range and it may one-shot you if you don't dodge.

Because, particularly if you're a melee character, you'll be spending most of your time underneath Astel's abdomen, it has a number of punishing attacks if you get too greedy. Much better than rolling away at aoe attacks. At around half health, it will use a Teleport to get away. Dodge through them or run towards the sides, as even one of them can break through your guard and deal heavy damage. The boss at the end of Yelough Anix Tunnel. Standing in front of his head makes it much easier to see both of those attacks, and you can pretty much just back off, then step forward again when he's done. Maybe i was lucky. And have a long range option bows with rain of arrows to continue to apply a status if he keeps running away. The thing that does me in with him isn't that he has the grab attack, it's that by the time I've adjusted the camera, it's normally too late.
