A vintage Stanley Aladdin vacuum flask is a great investment if you can manage to acquire one, they are extremely well made making them suited to all tasks more than a century after their introduction. The guy who started it all was William Stanley way back in , he invented the double wall vacuum flask made of steel and esestially made a flask so bulletproof you can still see them in use today — hence this post. Stanley flasks back then really were built to last. It was on our trip back to the UK when this old Stanley flask appeared, we needed something for coffee when out hiking and the flask was dug out from the depths of a cupboard. A great retro look for picnics or travel, this red and black plaid thermos was made by Aladdin Industries, Nashville, Tennessee. It has a twist off lid that serves as a cup, plus a stopper to keep hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold. The thermos is plastic with a silvered glass liner. Cup and stopper are plastic. Believe me, I never started out one day saying "Boy, I really need to have a collection of used insulated coffee holding devices which probably don't even work anymore and who-knows-who has drunk out of". Although, now that's I'm typing this, it would make so much more sense next to the almost never used coffee maker.
