This is a list of world records for Masters age groups in the sport of road running. WMA conducts various world championships in what are called "non stadia" events, meaning races not held in the confines of a stadium. But with the exception of the marathon and three race walking events, WMA does not publish world records in other common road racing distances. Records are kept for all events contested at the Olympic Games and some others. Unofficial records for some other events are kept by track and field statisticians. The only non- metric track distance for which official records are kept is the mile run. Witnessing a world record brings great pleasure for athletics fans, and athletes' personal sponsors and promoters of major meetings such as the Diamond League and its predecessor, the IAAF Golden League have offered bonuses to athletes breaking a record.

Kenyan athlete Kelvin Kiptum set a men's world record time of on October 8, , at the Chicago Marathon. Ethiopian athlete Tigst Assefa broke the women's world record for a mixed-gender race with a time of on September 24, , at the Berlin Marathon. Road racing events like the marathon were specifically excepted from World Athletics rule 18 d that rejected from consideration those track and field performances set in mixed competition. The Association of Road Racing Statisticians , an independent organization that compiles data from road running events, also maintains an alternate marathon world best progression but with standards they consider to be more stringent. The IAAF Congress at World Championships in Athletics passed a motion changing the record eligibility criteria effective October 6, , so that women's world records must be set in all-women competitions.
