The obverse is reminiscent of the Coronation crown, with an equestrian portrait of the Queen in Guards uniform. The reverse is unusual in having no inscription of any kind, let alone the value of the coin. The eagle-shaped vessel known as the Ampulla and the ceremonial spoon used to anoint the sovereign at the coronation appear in a central circle, surmounted by the Crown of St Edward and the heraldic flowers of the United Kingdom. This historic UK coin was is one of just four decimal crown coins ever to be struck.

This crown, as with the crown, had a face value of twenty-five new pence. Because it was primarily a commemorative coin rather than being intended to circulate, it was presumably not considered necessary to include a mark of value in the inscription. On the reverse side of the crown, a decorative coronation insignia is present, although no inscription is visible. With a face value of 25p, the Jubilee crown could be, and was, used in commercial transactions. However, many retailers were unwilling to accept the coin, which left owners with the option of paying it into a bank or Post Office or keeping it as a commemorative item.
