Those who believe in the Unseen, and perform the prayers, and donate from what We have provided for them. And those who believe in what was revealed to you, and in what was revealed before you, and are certain of the Hereafter. These are upon guidance from their Lord.

An سورة البقرة provision—a duty upon the virtuous. Humanity was a single community; then Allah sent the prophets, as deliverers of good news and warners. We have revealed to you clear Verses, and none reject them except the sinners, سورة البقرة.

As for those who disbelieve—it is the same for them, whether you have warned them, or have not warned them—they do not believe. Allah has sealed their hearts and their hearing, and over their vision is a veil. They will have a severe punishment.

A major theme is guidance: urging the pagans Al-Mushrikeen and the Jews of Medina to embrace Islam , and warning them and the hypocrites Munafiqun of the fate God had visited in the past on those who failed to heed his call. Al-Baqara is believed by Muslims to have been revealed in in Medina over a long period after the Hijrah , with the exception of the riba verses which Muslims believe were revealed during the Farewell Pilgrimage , the last Hajj of Muhammad. Following the muqatta'at , Al-Baqara begins with the declaration that the Quran is free of doubt and contains guidance for those who possess taqwa. There follows a description of the kafirs and munafiqs. The first of these verses uses the word kafir to describe one who conceals the truth, and Muhammad is advised that they will not believe despite his efforts because God has sealed their hearts and hearing, and covered their eyes so that they will not be able to see, hear, or comprehend guidance , and that they will be punished with a great torment. It is said that they try to deceive God and the mumins believers but they deceive themselves without perception, that in their hearts is a disease which God increases, and that they will be punished with a painful torment. To the believers they say they believe, but when they go back to their devils, they tell confess their disbelief, but they do not know that God deceives them and increases their deviation. They are then called those who engage in a profitless trade, the purchase of error with guidance.

But Allah promises you forgiveness from Himself—and grace. We have revealed to you clear Verses, and none reject them except the sinners. But pardon and overlook, until Allah brings His command. Then Allah guided those who believed to the truth they had disputed, in accordance with His will. In this is a sign for you, if you are believers. When you have divorced women, and they have reached their term, do not prevent them from marrying their husbands, provided they mutually agree on fair terms. Deaf, dumb, blind—they do not understand. Thanks again. But the wrongdoers among them substituted words other than those given to them, so We sent down on the wrongdoers a plague from heaven, because of their wicked behavior. Allah will judge between them on Resurrection Day regarding their disputes. And be cautious of Allah, and know that Allah knows everything. About this life and the next.

And obey Allah. And you knew those among you who violated the Sabbath. As for those who believe, they know that it is the Truth from their Lord. And Allah gave him sovereignty and wisdom, and He taught him of what He willed. And be mindful of Me, O possessors of understanding. Allah is Seeing of everything you do. And to Him, we surrender. He is able to revive the dead. Do you not understand? Fasting is prescribed for you, as it was prescribed for those before you, so that you may become righteous.
